Wes Stafford is the President and CEO of Compassion International. He's written a book called 'Just a Minute' - a collection of stories, based around the powerful concept that 'in the heart of a child, one moment can last forever.' This is something I need to remember more and more.

''with each child you encounter, you have the power to build up, or sadly tear down. A life can be..launched with a single word, an uplifting comment, a well timed hug, a tender prayer, the holding of a frightened hand or the gentle wiping of a tear all in just one minute."

I have copied this quote from a friends Blog because I find it to be very true.  There are gems to be found in what kids say, sometimes they use 3 times as many words as they need to with lots of padding out, lol.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Happy New Year to all.

Christmas saw me making my first Pork Roast dinner.  Turned out really well - crackling was crackly - didn't tell my mum in law I used white wine to baste so she really enjoyed it too.  We started the morning with a bible story about the birth of Jesus and then we all watched a Christmas Carol.  Some relationships felt the strain as all married people can probably relate to.  Babysitting 2 extra dogs also kept us from getting our best sleep.  But all in all good to have time off work be with family and eat yummy food.

It is now time to turn our attention back to making sure sports and other enrollments are done, school books and shoes etc are organized.

The other good thing for the beginning of the year is to get into some good routines.  Trying to spend time with God every morning and encouraging our son to do the same.  Miss 15 seems to have this sorted in a way that works for her.

Wishing you all the best for you and yours,
Sue

Tip of the day

Another cooking tip.  When preparing a meal that includes onion  use the following tip if your family thinks you've been watching a girlie movie every time you chop onions.  Cut the onion in half lenghtways ie from top to bottom.  Chop the top bit off but leave the bottom bit (that used to have the roots attached) in tact.  Cut into thirds but don't cut all the way through to the end. Then chop accross into small pieces.  By not cutting the end it seems to give off less fumes thereby less watery and sore eyes.  Hope this enhances your cooking experience, I know it has mine.

The kids are eating away from home tonight so I'm making chili chicken. yum

I'm back

One of the reasons I started this blog was to help myself get through my technophobia.  I recently actually lost my blog.  Couldn't find it, saved on a different browser, had to get into my husbands web history copy and send it to myself.   Live and learn I say.....even if you do feel a bit silly sometimes in the process.

Anyway, I'm going to start posting some helpful hints and tips.  Here's one to get started:
If you are using fresh ginger (and I recommend you do for its many heath benefits) peel using a SPOON   it's so much easier.  More tips to follow in a couple of days if I can stick to it and also not loose my page.
Grace and peace to you.

Youngest off to camp

Hey, it's been a while.  The youngest going off on his first school camp has motivated me today!
I'm so proud of him.  I expected to feel a little bit sad but I actually don't.  I know this will be great for his own maturity and many fun activities are planned as well as plenty of food - what else could an 11 y.o. want?  Prayed for his safety, he's now as always in Gods hands, nothing more I can do.  When I left him this morning he was busy helping a friend - awesome.

On a different note, I'm excited to receive my new book in the mail "Canning and Preserving your own Harvest". It is a part of a series in "An Encyclopedia of Country Living Guide".  I will have to work out what some of the American measurements mean and some of the terms they use.  Now if all the pesky other things on the to do list could just move so I could get into it that would be great.  Need a holiday I think.

ONE TOUCH METHOD
As easy as it sounds, I struggle with this one but am continuing to work on it.  Basically it involves putting things in their correct place as soon as you put them down.  When you pick up a piece of paper it either gets actioned, goes into the bin or in a designated place for future reference.  If something is dirty, clean it, if it is messy pick it up.  Clean as you go - as a busy person (i'm sure many can relate) we don't have a full day to set aside for the "housework" so this is the way to go.  Speaking of which - I have a few things to clean and pick up and iron, and study to do and..........unique opportunity to go out with my husband at lunchtime on a Wednesday, awesome!!!
See ya

Dinosaurs

Our Family devo tonight is about dinosaurs. We're watching a video with some compelling evidence that Adam and Eve probably lived with dinos'.  Also, how would they fit on the ark, and why they prob didn't live millions of years ago.

I love how awesome our God is - just looking at creation leaves me gobsmacked.

Still slowly working on reforming our eating habits.  If you have any great recipes which don't take a huge amount of planning I encourage you to respond to this post.
